Things I Want You To Know About

Posted by Lisa L. on Wednesday, August 19, 2015,

It's me! Just little old me. I just have a couple of things to bring to your attention. Then next week I'll have another awesome writing tips post for you!

This author is Karli Rush:

Don't know her. Never met her. Never had any dealings with her at all. But I saw a Facebook post floating around about her yesterday. It touched me in my core. Her husband just died suddenly. He was the primary income in the family. They have two children. One is Autistic and the other is on dialysis awaiting a kid...

Today, Finding Claire Fletcher got its 200th five star review on Amazon.

That's right. My own little underdog novel that took me literally years to sell to a publisher now has 200 FIVE STAR reviews on Amazon. You can check out the lengthy Agent Rejection Pictorial here.

Big Pub 1 to Agent (11/5/10):

Thanks for the FINDING CLAIRE FLETCHER material. The real-life background is horrific, of course, but I'm not that sold on the novel itself.
Good luck with it!

Some writers might think, "So what? Big ...

So Many Things!

Posted by Lisa L. on Monday, October 6, 2014,

I've been away so long! I apologize. This summer kicked my behind. I had a wee bit of a health scare which involved me having to get an MRI of my brain (everything is fine) and then a minor surgery (again, everything is also fine).

Seriously, waiting for appointments to begin is an awesome time to write!
I think I got 3K done waiting for this MRI.

The school year came so quickly, I've barely had time to process things, let alone blog about them. There are so many things I wanted to comment on ...

News, News, News and Oh Yeah, News

Posted by Lisa L. on Thursday, October 24, 2013,

For now.  First, apologies to all my brilliant writer/blogger friends.  I haven't been making the rounds to comment on your blogs.  I have, however, been lurking.  I'm an excellent lurker.  I subscribe to a lot of blogs via email so there are certain blogs I've been reading the last couple of months, but I haven't been around to comment and for that I am sorry.

Obviously, things have been crazy.  Regular old full-time-job-have-a-family crazy.  But also, I've been ta...

Well the votes are in and my debut novel, the one that took me over six years to get into the hands of readers, the one that was passed over so many times by agents and publishers before finally finding champions, the one that was snubbed repeatedly so many times, is a WINNER!

Today Finding Claire Fletcher won Best Heroine for Claire Fletcher and came in as runner up in Best Novel in the eFestival of Words Best of the Independent eBook Awards for 2013!

WOO HOO!!!!!!

Last Call!

Posted by Lisa L. on Monday, August 19, 2013,

Yes, I've been remiss in my blogging duties.  This summer is kicking my $#%.  So I apologize.  The good news is that I'm actually making progress on my next book.  Like real progress.  I'm really just popping my head up from said manuscript to ask one more time that (if you have not already) you vote in the eFestival of Words Best of the Independent eBook Awards.  This is the last week for voting.  Voting closes August 23, 2013.  Finding Claire Fletcher is doing quite well in Best Heroine but...

To Book Club or Not to Book Club?

Posted by Lisa L. on Friday, June 28, 2013,

So one of the many invitations you may get as a published writer is to come to book club meetings after the club has read your book.  Now if you've written some thought-provoking, life-changing, Pulitzer Prize-winning tome of literary genius, this is a great idea!  If you're a genre writer, it gets a little weird.

In my experience, most book clubs are made up of people who only want to read thought-provoking, life-changing, Pulitzer Prize winning tomes of literary genius.  They're not intere...

Post-Release Post #4: FAQs

Posted by Lisa L. on Tuesday, May 21, 2013,

Before I begin, don't forget about the Aberration Blog Hop which will be held on June 6th and 7th to celebrate the release of my second book!  Prizes, people!  There will be prizes!  Go here to sign up.

Now that that's out of the way, welcome to the 4th installment of my Post-Release Series.

So now that my book has been out for six months, I've had enough time to field questions about it and about being an author and surprisingly, many of them come up over and over again.  Here are the most fre...

Getting Behind the Violence (in my book)

Posted by Lisa L. on Thursday, May 16, 2013,

I've often thought about doing a post explaining why I chose to include so much violence in my novel, Finding Claire Fletcher.  I haven't done this post because I'm not in the habit of defending my own work.  As I've said many times in the past, not everything is for everyone. But now I feel this post is necessary--not in defense of my book, but in defense of people like the three Cleveland women who were recently rescued from captivity after ten long years, because Claire's story is my ficti...

Returning with Lots of News

Posted by Lisa L. on Tuesday, May 7, 2013,

I hadn't planned on returning till next week, but two things happened in the last 24 hours.  One was that three women who had been missing for 10 years were found alive in a house in Cleveland.  Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus and Michelle Knight. At the time of their abductions they ranged in age between 14 to 20.  The similarities to my debut novel, Finding Claire Fletcher were, to say the least, chilling.  I started receiving countless messages from friends, family and readers about this news s...

Post-Release Post #2: Readers

So now it's been almost two months since my book came out. It has been a crazy whirlwind.  I have to say that the strangest part about having your book published is this:  everyone you know reads it.  And I do mean every one.

People you never thought would read it--they read it.  People who are self-professed non-readers?  They read it.  People who haven't read a book in 10 years?  They read it.  Your 82 year old grandmother?  Yeah, she read...

Post-Release Post #1: The Launch

Posted by Lisa L. on Friday, January 4, 2013,

My daughter said to me, "Why are we calling it a launch?  That's something only rocket ships do!"

I don't know, but that's what we called it: "The Launch".  It was mine and my mom's idea to have some kind of party to mark the occasion of me fulfilling my lifelong dream.  So we set about planning a Launch/Release party.  We ended up having it at the neighborhood Applebee's because, well, Philadelphia doesn't have a lot of love for its debut authors.  I grew up in the Roxborough/Manayunk secti...

What is THAT?  Is that my dream come true?  Right there in that regular old box?  It IS!!!!!!

I recently received a shipment of my debut novel, Finding Claire Fletcher.  For the first time, I got to hold my own book in my hands.

I'm not even going to try to tone this down.  Besides the birth of my child, this is the best feeling ever.  Best. Feeling. Ever. Seriously.  Here, look at them again from a different angle:

Hey, I'm on Goodreads!

Posted by Lisa L. on Friday, July 20, 2012,

Before I start, I want to thank the lovely ladies at Falling for Fiction for hosting the Hookers and Hangers bloghop this week. It was so much fun!

So I signed my contracts in April which means it's been three and a half months since Sapphire Star Publishing made my wildest dream come true. To tell you the truth, I'm still all woo-hoo-floating-around-on-cloud-9-while-my-family-gets-annoyed-with-me-for-being-so-flighty. So today is for HOOKERS (tee hee hee).

Woot, woot!  I can now reveal the cover of my debut novel, Finding Claire Fletcher (how weird and cool is it that I can say that?  My "debut novel"?!)

I can't believe it!  It is so surreal that the tattered pieces of looseleaf I was scribbling furiously on all the way back in 2004 when I started writing FCF have now led to this!

I want to give a big shout-out and thank you to the cover artist, Chad a...
